We spoke to one of our property owners, Astrid, about why she loves Oxford. She told us that Oxford is the perfect combination of the ancient and modern and is full of culture. Her perfect Oxford day would be:
1. Wandering around the historic covered market. Opened in 1774 the covered market sits right in the centre of Oxford’s city centre. It is filled with small interesting shops and cafes.
2. Visiting museums. Astrid’s favourite museums are the University owned National History Museum to see dinosaur remains, the Pitt Rivers Museum to see the collection of shrunken heads and the recently refurbished Ashmolean museum (opened in 1683). The Ashmolean has special exhibitions as well as an impressive permanent collection, including Guy Fawkes’ lantern.
3. Lunch at Browns restaurant. Browns has been in Oxford since the 1970’s and has become an institution in the city. The interior of the restaurant oozes class and sophistication. The menu is a mix of modern and classic food and there is something to meet anyone's taste.
4. Afternoon of punting. A punt is a flat bottomed boat that is propelled through the water using a long pole. It became popular in the 1900’s. Punting along the river Cherwell and the Thames is a relaxing and peaceful way to take in the beauty Oxford.
5. Afternoon tea at Quod. A very traditional British pastime and with Quod’s large windows overlooking the historic colleges on the High Street this is the perfect way to end the day.
